Poetry abound

My wife picked out a couple of old pieces of poetry for me to post, and they've been sitting on my desk for a few days now. I wrote them years ago (a dozen or so, or more) and though at the time the poetry was endearing or funny or whatever, they do not reflect who I am now. So, rather than continue to post all of the old poetry (I will still on occasion) I wish to instead offer something new, written at this moment, just for the heck of it.

Face to face
Top to bottom
End of time
Life is short

Pain to sorrow
Battle to bear
Hope for freedom
Carry the spear

Time is timeless
Liberty rings
Fought for freedom
America sings

The King On The Cross

Written April 25, 1993.

Over the blowing wind,
The rain patters from the sky.
A solider with a message to send,
The King shall surely die.

Up on a shallow hill,
The three crosses stand so tall.
A solider will surely kneel,
And the King shall bless them all.

Then death did come,
The mist fell from the sky.
A soldier with the news to come,
The King did surely die.

The Christians wept,
And darkness filled the day.
The King only slept,
A debt He had to pay.

The body brought down,
The three crosses performed well.
A soldier fell to the ground,
He wept for the King that fell.

A fisher of men,
By men was He crucified.
For a soldier in his sin,
For the sin of all had He died.

He slept for three days,
And arose again in His might.
For sins of the world He payed,
So that glory can be in sight.
